Jailed on 12-Year Sentence and Charged $50 Million: Psychiatrist Fernando Mendez-Villamil

A Miami psychiatrist, Fernando Mendez-Villamil, flooded Miami’s streets with antipsychotic drugs as part of a scheme to defraud Medicare and Medicaid. He was sentenced in 2016 to 12 years in prison and a full $50 million in restitution for his medical fraud and overmedicating his patients.

The news was reported at the time by the Miami Herald who quote Medez-Villamil himself saying, “I know what I did was wrong, was dishonest.”

CCHR tracks all such criminal prosecutions of psychiatrists who abuse the mental health system and destroys lives.

If you or someone you know is a victim of psychiatric abuse, you can protect yourself by reporting it to CCHR through this secure Abuse Report Form.
